Frequently Asked Website Questions

Why am I not ranked #1 in search engines? How can I get there?

Search Engine secrets are closely guarded, only they know the exact algorithym that produce top ranking results. Does this mean it is all left up to chance? NO! Many sites are missing key elements to help rank them higher. If you are interested in learning more about how your site can be ranked higher, contact me!

Why is my Email not working?

Here are the top three solutions:

  • No Internet Connection - Check other websites to make sure you have a connection
  • Anti-Virus Software - Many anti-virus software programs block emails. Disable it and try your email again
  • Restart Your Computer - Sometimes email gets stuck, and a simple restart will solve your problem

If these solutions did not work, you may have the wrong settings. Contact your hosting provider for the correct settings.

Who can update my website?

Most website design contracts give the client full control of their website content, as long as the company updating is not claiming a design as their own. This means that anyone can make updates to your website. Check your web design agreement to verify.

What information do I need to provide to update my site?

Your FTP information and a list of your updates is all you need.

What is FTP?

FTP is short for File Transfer Protocol. This is how files get from a local computer to the server where a web site is stored. All web hosts require a username and password, check with your hosting company for this information.

What is the difference between a domain name and a hosting account?

An easy way to remember the difference is a domain name is like a telephone number, and the hosting account is like the person that picks up on the other end when a call is made. A domain name tells your web browser where to find the files for your web site, and a hosting account is where the files are stored.

A domain name can function by itself, usually for email or to redirect to another domain name, but a hosting account must have a domain name.

What happens when my domain name expires?

Most companies protect your domain name from expiring for one year, which means even if your domain name expires, you can still buy it back. If your domain name has expired, your website will not be visible. Once you renew your domain name, your site should come back online within 24 hours.
